I ran my first half marathon. I've always wanted to be a runner but never thought my body could do that. Back in September I started running again and noticed I was running faster than I did before after months of running but this was after not running in almost a year. At first I was running just to run. Then I started training for a half marathon without knowing if I could do it or would actually sign up. On Thanksgiving I ran a 5K turkey trot and ran the fastest I had ever run. I think I was still on a runner's high and with the black Friday sale the next day signed up for the Phoenix half marathon.
Getting ready to start with some good friends. Menolly on the far right helped me set up a schedule for training. Marlane next to me really helped push me into signing up. Not sure I would have done it without them.
Here is some of my cheering squad. They honestly had the best signs. Other runners were laughing around me.
Thank Laurel for making these awesome signs! And for breakfast after.
I finished!
Everyone told me that for your first half to not set a time. Run just to finish. Well maybe I am an over achiever but I wanted to finish under 2 hours. At the beginning of my training I was far from that time. I trained hard and wasn't really confident going into the race I could do it. But I did! My time was 1:59:07
The others finished about 5 minutes before me. I was thrilled to have been that close behind.
I was on a major runners high that day and the weeks following. This isn't my last race. A Disney run will definitely be happening!
